The Fight Capital’s List of Deceiving MMA Winners: MMA Fighters That Doesn’t Fill The Bill But Got The Belt
We are all guilty of doing this— judging a fighter in regards to how he looks. When you watch a fight, you immediately think that the fighter with perfect abs, big muscles and strong arms will win. Why not? After all, he fits the perfect description of an MMA winner. A few seconds before the fight ends, you are more than surprised to see your bet being beaten up by this big-bellied, tired-looking, grungy opponent. Your eyes are wide in shock and you cannot believe what you are seeing.
The MMA industry is full with fighters like this, those who do not fit the bill of a great MMA fighter. What you have to understand is the fact that MMA is not about looks. No one can see the strength of a person just by looking at him. However, MMA fighters usually fall into one stereotype– big body, strong muscles, tattooed arms and many other things. Regardless of these stereotypes, there are those who break these molds. Here are some of these fighters:
1.) Mike Russow.
During the fight of Mike Russow and Todd Duffee, it looks like it will be a big loss for Mike Russow. With Todd Duffee’s look– manly arms, big body and the type of fighter who can attract lots of pay-per -view buys, he was beaten by a not-so-tall and not-so-fit, looking a lot less impressive Mole Russow. On the first 12 minutes, it looks like Todd has sealed the deal bt it all changed when Russow started to throw a pair of straight hands that sent Duffee flying backwards. Russow’s win came as a shock to various MMA loyalists because Russow look every single bit like a policeman. Being a policeman, Russow fit the bill of a donut lover. His flabs and fats says it all but he never fail to shut up his doubters.
2.) Joe Lauzon
When you look at Lauzon, you cannot see an MMA fighter in him. In fact, he looked more like a geek. Actually, Lauzon is a network administrator of Charles River Analytics located in Cambridge. People se him more of a geek in a bookstore than a violent MMA fighter. Well, no one can blame you since he only started training as an MMA fighter during his latter part of high school. This all changed when he knocked out Jen Pulver. During that fight, there is no trace of a geek person in Lauzon. He was every bit like an aggressive fighter. In fact, his aggressiveness actually earned him more wins in the succeeding fights.
3.) BJ Penn
BJ Penn is not like any MMA fighter—those that can make it to the covers of a men’s health magazine. This is because of his genetics. Thanks to Hawiian’s natural athleticism and flexibility, he has gathered many awards. In fact, he is even considered as one of the best fighters there are.
These players truly lived up to the saying, ‘There is more than meets the eye’.
